Southeast Asia is a subregion of Asia, located between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. It has some of the best waves in the world and is a premier surf destination for professional surfers.
The Best Surf Spots in Southeast Asia are in Indonesia and the Philippines, but Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia are also becoming popular surf destinations. Even the high-tech megacity of Singapore has surf.
Indonesia is the mecca of surfing in Asia. Bali has some of the best waves in the world and is the most popular surf spot Asia.
Siargao is the surf capital of the Philippines and its Cloud 9 reef break is the top surf spot in the country.
Thailand is becoming a popular surf destination in Southeast Asia with the best surf in Phuket and the Andaman Sea.
China Beach is the most popular surf spot in Da Nang, the surf capital of Vietnam.
Cherating has best surf in Malaysia, but you can surf artificial waves at Sunway Lagoon in Kuala Lumpur, too.

East Asia
East Asia is a subregion in Asia. It is bordered by North Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east. Surfing is becoming more popular and you can find world-class waves in this region.
The best surf spots in East Asia are in Japan and Taiwan, but you can find quality waves in China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and even North Korea.
Japan has some of the best surf in East Asia. The Best Surf Spots in Japan are in on the islands of Shikoku and Kyushu. Chiba is the surf mecca of Japan where 2020 Summer Olympics surfing competitions will be held.

Hainan Island is the surf capital of China. The best waves are found at One Man Left, Sanya Bay, Dadonghai Bay, and Yalong Bay.

South Asia
The countries of India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Maldives make up the region of South Asia. Over 1.7 billion people live in South Asia, making it one of the most densely populated regions in the world.
The best surf spots in South Asia are in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Even though the surf is more limited here compared to Southeast Asia or East Asia, there are still amazing beaches with waves you won’t want to miss.
Bangladesh’s tropical weather makes it a good destination to surf year-round. Cox’s Bazar is one of the longest beaches in the world where you’ll find consistent waves.
India’s exposure to the swells of the Indian Ocean makes it a good location to catch some waves. Kovalam Beach is probably the best-known surf spot, which is found in the south of India.
The Maldives is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The North Male Atolls feature some of the cleanest breaks in the world. You’ll catch some nice and consistent waves.
Pakistan is located along the Arabian Sea and is home to many beautiful beaches. The waves at Ras Pishukan are inconsistent, but when the conditons are right, the surf can be fantastic here.
Sri Lanka is located just south of India in the Indian Ocean. The most famous surf spot is Arugam Bay. It has lazy right-hand point and reef breaks. The best time to surf A-Bay is July, August, and September, but the lineups can get quite crowded.
